BENGALURU HOMEOWNER GUIDE · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2026
Solar panel cost in Bangalore: what should you actually budget?
Start with your monthly electricity use, not a panel package. The installed price depends on the size, your roof, equipment and the work included in the quote.

Sample 1–3 kW budget
These are planning examples, not current market quotes. We use ₹60,000 per kW solely to show the maths. Get a written installed-price quote for your roof before making a decision.
| System | Sample installed price | Possible central subsidy | Sample after subsidy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹60,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹30,000 |
| 2 kW | ₹1,20,000 | ₹60,000 | ₹60,000 |
| 3 kW | ₹1,80,000 | ₹78,000 | ₹1,02,000 |
The official scheme lists ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or larger at its stated benchmark. Eligibility, approval and actual project costs must be checked. Read the government announcement.
Which size is right for your house?
Your bill amount alone cannot size a system accurately. Find units consumed on your bill, then ask the installer how many units the proposed system should generate over a year. Roof area, shade and your local electricity connection matter too.
The Government of India gives a broad guide: 0–150 units a month may point to 1–2 kW; 150–300 units to 2–3 kW; over 300 units to above 3 kW. These are starting ranges, not a roof survey. See the government size guide.
Before saying yes to a quote
- Ask for the full installed price, including panels, inverter, mounting, wiring, meter-related work, GST and any extra charges.
- Ask for system size, expected monthly and yearly generation, roof-shade assumptions and the panel and inverter models.
- Ask whether the price shown is before or after subsidy, who applies, and when the subsidy is expected.
- If paying by EMI, compare the total repayment—not only the monthly EMI—with the cash price.
- Get warranty, maintenance and service terms in writing.
Two common questions
Will my electricity bill become ₹0?
Do not assume it. Solar can offset energy use, but fixed charges and grid usage may remain. Output also varies with shade, weather and season. Ask the installer to estimate your post-solar bill using your actual units and tariff.
How do I apply for the subsidy?
Use the official PM Surya Ghar portal to check current rules and apply. The scheme lets households select a suitable vendor through the national portal. Never treat a sample subsidy in an online calculator as approval.
